LANSING - The Macomb Township Fire Corps spent the day in the state’s capital June 5, as state Rep. Kim Meltzer, RMacomb, Clinton and Ray townships, arranged for the group to be recognized, fed and educated by her fellow representatives.Sgt. Dwayne Thompson of the Macomb Township Fire Department and leader of the township’s Fire Corps said after attending one of the Fire Corps’ meetings and becoming a citizen advocate herself, Meltzer asked to give the group special recognition at the state level.
“It was educational and informative,” he said. “A nice little trip.”

When John Halsey lost a friend nearly two years ago, it prompted him to think about his own life and his future.
Halsey, who lives in Macomb Township, was a manufacturing technician for Ford Motor Company. He worked at the Van Dyke Transmission Plant in Sterling Heights.
When the company offered buyout packages in late 2006, Halsey, then 40, decided to accept the offer. He left the company that December. A trip to his local Allstate insurance agency prompted Halsey and his wife, Lisa Halsey, to consider careers in selling insurance. On June 1, 2007, the couple opened the Halsey Agency in Macomb Township. The Halseys have three children: Julie, 16; John IV, 11, and Cari, 9.
